I Sam 16:7 says, ” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart (ESV).
God looks at the heart either to accept or reject our actions, deeds, and us. It determines if God will bless you or not. In 1 Sam 16, the bible makes me understand that Eliab, David's elder brother had a good appearance as well as David but he did not have the heart that God was looking for. Two of them were handsome but David's heart was different, hence he was chosen as the king. God is really concerned about the heart condition of every one.
If this is what God looks at, then our heart is a vital ingredient for God's blessings. Saul and Eliab were rejected because of it. David's brother had the appearance, the physique and every other thing except the right heart. This tells me that so many people are concerned about their looks and spend money, time and resources on their body and outward appearances than their heart. This is one reason why people don't receive from God.
Jeremiah 17:9 says, " 9 The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick; who can understand it? (ESV).
If God would have our hearts opened, then many people will be seen as they are. We will be exposed if our hearts are open and you will be surprised to see what goes on in the hearts of people even believers in Christ. Things like pride, jealousy, envy, bitterness, grudges, sin, etc, all come from the heart. Your heart condition is very important. It reveals alotabout you and i even if we deny it. Our appearance is a representation of who will want people to know, think and see of us, but our hearts reveal what and who we really are.
Proverbs 23:6&7, " 6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy; do not desire his delicacies, 7 for he is like one who is inwardly calculating.“Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. (ESV).
Those scriptures make me understand that what some people say with their mouth is different from what they have in their hearts. They may say "I love You" whereas they hate you. Some may even tell you that you are looking good but in their hearts, they are cursing you and wish you dead. So many times, what people say is different from what they are thinking. A man's heart really reflects who he is and not his appearance and looks.
Pro 27:19 really captures it. It says, " 19 As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man (ESV)".
Also, Matt 13:34 says, " You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (ESV).
Luke 6:45 says, " The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (ESV).
The heart is very important and we all have to work on our heart conditions. You can tell a times what a person is thinking by what he is saying. What you think most times is a function of what you read, see, etc. So we have to be careful of what we see and read.
Jeremiah 17:10, " I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds (ESV)".
All the above scriptures prove that God weights the heart and its motives to bless us. Your motives of doing something might not be known by people but God knows and sees it. So, stop deceiving people and yourself. You can deceive men but not God. Also, the lord tries and tests the heart to see if it is right.
Pro 17:3 says, " 3 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts. (ESV).
What is the state of your heart and your heart condition? You need to sincerely answer that question because that is what God looks out before he releases his blessings upon you.
Some time ago, I prayed that God should the tendencies of my heart to me and what I started noticing from then was PRIDE. I am still believing God and working on myself in the area of PRIDE. May God help us all. Amen. Wilson Ileogben.
