Romans12:17-18 says,"Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone". It is man's nature to retaliate but the scripture says otherwise.
Recently, I saw a fight that thought me a big lesson. A bus pulled over behind my house and a fight eschewed between the passengers and the bus conductor. The conductor was the first person to attack one of the passengers. Later another passenger joined in the fight. Before long, the conductor was on the ground shouting. His leg had got broken. I saw his bone shooting out because it had broken.
At this time, all the passengers came out with their hands on their head and shouting, "his leg is broken". The conductor was still on the ground shouting, "my leg, my leg" is broken. Don't let them go.
The lesson here is whatever any body does to you, don't retaliate or pay evil with evil. The conductor was the person who attacked the passenger first but got a broken leg. The passengers will end up spending money they didn't plan for to treat the conductor in the hospital and get the leg fixed.
If they got to the police station to report the case, the passengers will be held responsible no matter who started the fight. They may end up sleeping in police cell for retaliating. I know offence will come, but let's do what Jesus would do by forgiving men who upset us. This is applicable to marriages, friends, people, employees, ministers, family members, countries, etc. WILSON ILEOGBEN
