Tank N Tummy

filling
There is an eatery I know that goes by the name, Tank N Tummy. The company operates a gas station as well as an eatery at the same premises. The slogan of Tank N Tummy is “fuel in the tank and food in the tummy”. It captures the reality of man and his needs. Daily, commuters and vehicles go in to either buy fuel or food or both. Some people stop over every day to unwind and some to have breakfast, lunch and dinner before they get home.
Also, there is this popular place in my country where people stop over to eat and refuel their tanks when they are travelling from the west. This place has many food vendors, hawkers and several fuel or gas stations. People are always looking forward to buying all sorts of things when they get to this place because one can buy so many things starting from food to fuel, handkerchiefs to sucks and CDs to clothes. This is one good place you can apply the slogan, fuel in the tank and food in the tummy.
Everyone of us eats daily when we are hungry and those who have cars, vehicles and buses refill or refuel their tanks when the gas or fuel in their tanks get finished or become red. We all need food the way cars need fuel or gas or diesel to move. What food is to our body is what fuel is to a car. So, the body actually needs food to grow and cars can’t move without fuel. If you eat the right food, you will grow well and if you buy the right fuel, your car will move perfectly without developing problems on the way. Spiritually, we all need to feed daily by eating God’s word and praying daily.
There is a race set before us which is not a hundred (100) meters’ race but a marathon. People who are involved in a marathon race drink water in the cause of the race by collecting water offered to them by those cheering them on. The water gives them more energy and prevents them from been dehydrated.
1 Kings 19: 3-8 says NLT:
So Elijah fled for his life; he went to Beersheba, a city of Judah, and left his servant there. Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day, and sat down under a broom bush and prayed that he might die. “I’ve had enough,” he told the Lord. “Take away my life. I’ve got to die sometime, and it might as well be now.”Then he lay down and slept beneath the broom bush. But as he was sleeping, an Angel touched him and told him to get up and eat!He looked around and saw some bread baking on hot stones and a jar of water! So he ate and drank and lay down again. Then the Angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, for there is a long journey ahead of you. So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Horeb, the mountain of God,where he lived in a cave”.
You should eat the word of God daily because you need God’s strength for each day to face every trial, challenge and issue. Although the word you study daily remains in you forever, it helps you go through each day. So, you need to get a refill of God’s word daily. The journey of our lives is very long; hence you need God’s word.
In the cause of the journey, there will be trials, challenges, obstacles, pains, encounters, confusions and doubts. But the word of God will help you surmount them. Physical food gives you strength physically, while spiritual food (God’s word) strengthens you in every area of your life including your physical body. Be careful with the kind of spiritual food you eat because it will definitely affect you in every way. The word of God should be your standard and not what your pastor or someone else said. In other words, you should know God for yourself
Psalm 119 says,
  1. How can a young person live a pure life? By obeying your word.
  2. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
  3. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.
  4. Your laws endure to this day,for all things serve you.
  5. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
  6.  Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.
  7.  I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.
  8. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.
  9. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.
  10. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.
  11. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
  12. I gain understanding from your precepts;therefore I hate every wrong path.
  13. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
For you to grow very well, you need to eat food with balance diet. So, if you want to grow spiritually, you need to eat the balance diet of the word of God. Stop eating pockets and crumbs of the bible. Instead, try as much as possible to eat the word of God to your fill daily. It is medicine to your spirit, soul and body. It was stated in the bible that we show study to show ourselves approved by God, a workman who needs not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).  We need to fill our Spiritual, emotional, moral and mental tanks and tummy daily if we want to finish well and strong.
