The Race Of Life.
Life is not about who wins the race but it is about finishing the race set before you. We all need to finish well and strong. Many people started a long time but could not finished. They got distracted by the things and challenges in their lives. There is a saying that that says, "do not start what you can't finished". This is the state of many of us. We started some things like business, education, projects family, etc some years ago but stopped along the way.
Things are not going the way you have planned them and you keep asking yourself "why". You may also look at yourself and think that you are not where you have longed to be because you are incompetent and not good enough. Regrets, sorrow, weeping and complaining have become the order of the day in your life. The thoughts on your mind is that you should give up, start stealing and robbing people or commit suicide. Please becareful because this period in your life is very vital. The decisions you take may spring board you to the next level in life or take you down the pits of regrets, shame and sorrows.
Luke 9:62 says, "Jesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.".
If you always "wish" you were this person or that person or in that place or position in life, you are not helping matters. You are only pouring fuel into the fire burning in you. It can be likened to a man running a race and he is looking back at those coming behind him. If an athlete is running a race in that way, he may fall, stumble, slow down his pace and lose the race. If you are looking at others and things while running the race of life, you will end up slowing your own progress.
Also, you are considered as unfit in the kingdom of God if you look back. Looking back could mean regrets, longing for the past, wishing you didn't take that decision you took and so on. Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. Looking back can make you stagnant in life. You will never make progress when you always wish to be like someone else and when you long for the past.
Some of us look at people who are progressing and make the conclusion that some thing is wrong with us. Yes, they have gone ahead of you but that does not mean that they are better than you. In the physical, you may look stagnant but in the eyes of God, you are making progress.
Every house built has its own structure and the foundations are determined by the structure. If you are building a bungalow or normal house, the foundation will be different from that of a duplex and tall buildings. The foundation for a skyscraper is totally different from that of a duplex. You have to dig deep into the ground for the foundation to be laid. The building of a duplex would have been completed far long before that of a skyscraper is completed. But in the end, every one will long to be like the skyscraper and they will try to identify with it. A normal building is completed in a shorter time, while a skyscraper takes time. You have to dig deep before laying its foundation (skycraper).
Ecc 9:11 says, " I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.".
Many times the people who ran first in a race dont win the race. Every body has his own destiny and purpose to fulfill. If my destiny will take me 4 (Four) days to fulfill and yours is 2 (two)days, why am i jealous of you? Why am i feeling that i am not progressing because you are doing very well. Every body will get to the finish life even a tortoise. What we need to do is to be focused on our destiny instead of being distracted by other's progress. we can learn from them but our purpose is different. We all are running a race. Make sure you run and you finish. If winning the prize is your goal, make sure you run the race accordingly.
Joseph lived as a prince in his father's house and he had revelations of his future. But the process to that future was zigzag. He moved from a comfortable home to becoming a slave in another land not by choice. He moved from his master's house to prison and from prison to the palace and becoming prime minister in that land. What a process!!! Many of us may think that God should have taken him straight to his destiny but God chose a different way and means for him. We all will not follow the say route to our destiny because life is not who finished first or who won the race but about finishing the race. Wilson Ileogben
