Yesterday, I was at a barber's shop to have my hair cut. The barber and I got talking and the barber said, "It is not possible not to sin". I kept mum for some seconds and later said to him that it is possible to live without sinning and to win in life by righteousness. This statement, "Body no be firewood" is another statement people make regularly because they can't control themselves and because they want to justify their failures, weaknesses. They also say this so that others can encourage others to indulge in whatever sin that has taken them captive. As an unbeliever, it is impossible for you not to sin but as a christian, it is possible to live without sinning.
However, a believer can sin if he is not yielding to the leading of the spirit. Gal 5:16 NIV says "16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh". The NLT puts it this way "16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.". Enoch walked with God in his time and he was not because God took him (Gen 5:21-24, Heb 11:5&6). Noah was called a righteous and blameless man in his time when God was not happy with man because the wickedness of man had become great and the inclination of their heart was always evil and it pained God that he had made man. This was a period God said his spirit would not continue to struggle with the spirit of men. Lot refused to sin like the people of Sodom and Gomorrah and the Bible also called him a righteous man. He was in a place where sinning is a way of life and he didn't sin.
This means you can be in Egypt and Egypt can't be in you. You can be in a place, office, house where sinning is common place and still be a Holy and righteous person. Many people are trying to overcome sin but they don't know no one can overcome sin by wilful power. No wonder people keep falling to sin despite the fact that they want to please God in all ways. The other reason why people even christians sin is because they don't obey the word of God to the later. Psalm 119:11 says "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you". Sin makes one dirty and stink but you can overcome it by walking in the ways of God and by the law of the spirit of life in christ Jesus. We can win by righteousness.
