A Call to Repentance.

I have heard all sorts of prayers in this life. When people are in need they pray like this:" Give me a wife or husband or else I will stop serving you. Bless me, give me a job, a car or else I will die, etc". People threaten God with their prayers when they are in their lowest ebb. But the painful aspect of it is the way they treat God "when" their request is granted. (Please God cannot be threatened with your prayers. He answers prayers  willingly).
Some time ago, a lady came to give testimony in a church after a surgery. After the testimony, she said," I give my life to God and I will serve him. I will be the first person to come to church next week". The following week, I looked out for her but she didn't come to church that day until after a long while. This is an example of how people use God to get things, healings, job, babies and later abandon him when their needs are met. This will be painful to me if someone does it to me let alone God.
 2 chron 12:1,2 and 5 says NLT:( 1. But when Rehoboam was firmly established and strong, he abandoned the Law of the LORD, and all Israel followed him in this sin. 2. Because they were unfaithful to the LORD, King Shishak of Egypt came up and attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam’s reign. 5. The prophet Shemaiah then met with Rehoboam and Judah’s leaders, who had all fled to Jerusalem because of Shishak. Shemaiah told them, “This is what the LORD says: You have abandoned me, so I am abandoning you to Shishak)”.
King Rehoboam abandoned God when he became stronger and firmly established, and God abandoned him in return.  This shows that many people run to God for the things they can get from him instead of the source of life, that is God. He is the source of every thing. The Bible says draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Has that Job, child, husband, school, house , wife, contract taken you away from God.
 Success makes a man attractive. When you achieve things in life, they can take you away from God if you are not careful. Listen, what a man sows he will reap. Can you live without air? I say No. So, you and I can't live without God because in him we live, move and have our being. God is happy when we succeed and achieve things in life because that is his desire for us. But we should not allow that achievement to take us away from HIM.
Do you still pray, study the bible, go to church meetings, preach as you used to do before you became comfortable and successful? Has going to church become a burden to you now that you have a job, a baby or a good business? There is no excuse you can give. There are people who are richer than you and are in the same state with you but their realtionship with God is impeccable. So, you can create time for God.
What shall separate us from the love of God? If you abandon God, he will abandon you. When God abandons you, then, the Devil will take over. Come back to God, your first love today. He is waiting for you the way the father of the prodigal son in the bible waited and longed for him.  This is a call to repentance and rededication. WILSON ILEOGBEN.
