You Can Do It.

Football/soccer has taken over the world when it comes to sports. People talk about football teams and various leagues. Some will say that they are Chelsea fans, Manchester fans, Liverpool fans, Manchester City fans, Bayern Munich fans and so on. These people will do any thing to protect the image of their clubs when it comes to debate. Some people go as far as betting , buying jersies, branding their cars, phones,houses with their club's logo. People will do anything to show their loyalty by dressing in a particular way on a particular way. How strange this has become because football has become an idol or a god to many and they are not aware of it. Football a times could become mathematical because people end up permutating. That is the game called football.

I love football but it has its limitations. It almost became an idol to me but for the intervention of my wife and deliberate efforts. It makes people happy for a while and it could cause issues and quarrel amongst family members, friends, people if one's team loses. People have lost their salaries, income, lives, properties because of football. This has to stop. However, the game of football is interesting. If your team is winning, it is very cool and exciting and vice versa. I have seen small teams beat big teams and teams with a man down beat complete teams. Teams with inexperience, lack of exposure, lower income and no superstars can beat a team with superstars and experience. Football can be unpredictable a times. The weaker teams were able to able it because they believed in themselves and they didn't write themselves off. They didn't allow the big team's status and superstars and their achievements and names to intimidate them. They told themselves that they could do it and they did.

This can be related to every one of us because we some times look down on ourselves because of our background, qualifications, speech impediment, exposure and so on. Many have shortchanged themselves because they were looking at their weaknesses, bank accounts and so on. This is not supposed to be so because no man has two heads. There are billionaires who were from poor background and who didn't go to school but they overcame the odds and today all that is history.

It reminds me of Moses, Jeremiah and His Gideon in the Bible. Jeremiah 1:4- 10 says "4 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. 6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak:for I am a child. 7 But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child:for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. 8 Be not afraid of their faces:for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. 9 Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. 10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
God sent Prophet Jeremiah on a mission and he said to God that he can't speak and that he was a child. He was looking at his weaknesses, while God saw something else in him. Did God not know that he was a child and he also could not speak before he called him and sent him on that mission? This is related to most of us. God would tell us to do something and we will look at ourselves as incapable and incompetent. God sees who he has created but we are seeing what we have become as a result of our limitations, weaknesses and background.

Also, when God sent Moses on a mission in exodus 4, he looked for every excuse he could give not to go. He called himself a stammerer but God was seeing a leader. God knew that he was not eloquent, yet He sent him to the king of Egypt who was learned and educated, although Moses was once fluent, educated and exposed in their ways. Being fluent and qualified educationally could he the criteria for securing a very good job but those are not the criteria for you to get be called by God and do his job. Don't ever write off yourself. Gideon was called a mighty man of valour  by an angel of God and he was also that he would lead and save his people from the midianites in Judges 6. He said that, that was not true because he was the least in his family and his family was the least in Israel. He wrote himself off in spite of the angel telling him who he was. The angel told him that he was more than what he thought of himself.

Is that not related to the way some of us see ourselves? We look and talk down on ourselves and others because of our experiences, educational background, financial status, position in the society and so on. Don't ever say you can't do that job or assignment because you have not done it before. Also, don't pass on a job given to you because you think you are incompetent. As long as it was given to you, you can do it because you have the capacity and you were wired to do it. God qualifies those he has called and whatever you have been called and asked to do it, do it with all of your might because you can. Wilson Ileogben.
