This is very vital in our lives. We need to examine ourselves every time for the purpose of heaven. If you truely examine yourself, you may find out that there are things you need to repent of. You may also realise that there are things you need to change so that you can get better. Also, it will make you accept any judgement meted out to u when you are wrong. It helps you not to get offended at whatever people say or do to you.
2 Corinthians 15: 5&6 say:
5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
6 And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.
Galatians 6:4 says, " Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else".
When God judges you, it is for your own good as a christian. He uses it to discipline you when you err because he disciplines the son he loves. He does it to take away those weaknesses, issues, flaws, etc out of your life. This will make you even better because he prunes any tree that is fruitful so that it can bear more fruits. God can use your PASTOR, friends, people, spouse, father, scriptures, things, the Holy spirit, etc to judge, chastise, and discipline you. Remember that God does not tempt people with evil which could be sickness, Job loss, misfortune, etc.
James1vs12-14 says that God does not tempt/chastise with evil, etc, so his chastisement is not sickness or misfortune rather, it could be by subjecting you to some kind of WAITING for what you think you deserve NOW.Hebrews 5:8 says: "
8 Although He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
Discipline could also come in the form of delay in answering of some prayers. God could scold you directly, or he could send someone to you like your Pastor and friends to scold you. Also, he could make you submit either spiritually, job wise, educationally, etc to someone lesser than you.
There are many ways God can discipline a person. A good example is Apostle Paul in In 2 cor 12v8:10.The thorn in the flesh (a messenger of Satan) he was given was not sickness but it was oppositions he had in the cause of preaching and doing the kingdom work. The experience Paul had was to discipline him so that he could bear more fruits.
Furthermore, it is when we refuse God's chastisement that he allows us to be manhandled by circumstances and situations which may include sickness misfortune, etc. BUT IT IS NOT GOD THAT BROUGHT IT TO YOU. HE ONLY ALLOWED IT BECAUSE OF YOUR DISOBEDIENCE.
God chastises and disciplines so that you will not be condemned on the day of judgement and to break you because he cannot use any one he has not broken. God's Judgement (discipline) may not be easy, but if you allow it, it will bear the peaceable fruit of righteousness. WILSON ILEOGBEN.
